You're Fifty. Unemployed. Now What?

When I was in the thirties or even early forties I was a workaholic, and my boss in Washington is not the media do not tell me that I was a great problem solver and backed his words which I have placed much appreciated. I was sure it was going to be my life until I retired when I could be in my eighties or so. At the age of 42, I became ill and was placed on the sideline. My unemployment ran out soon afterwards, although illness prevented me, I did not get disability or four years.

How do I live? It boiled down to hand crumbs. I had to buy cars that have been friends for fear of tradingin car breaks down. I bought a hand me down clothes from the thrift store and a friend gave me some. I was taking care of stray dog that I refused to give away. I finally had to take refuge in an abandoned warehouse in rural Mississippi to a friend kindly available to me.

I rarely ate three meals a day, preferably from eating beans and rice. In retrospect I could have done better. I was a late bloomer in technology and the internet, but I knew the principles of barter. I slowly learned it and put my skills to the replacement effect. I traded

blogging, logos, cartoons, and everything else I do for other goods and services. It worked. Hardly, but it worked. During this time, I built what I hoped to be my "Cartoon empire", even though I had only a few hundred black and white single panel of offbeat cartoons. One day I received an email from T-shirt manufacturer in San Diego who wanted to pay $ 10,000 for the rights to 18 cartoons, and I felt that I had arrived. My partner and artist, I took a 10K, and rested a bit after two years non-stop straight days and nights of work.

Today, if you have a computer and can blog and internet skills, you do not need the money. Yes, you may need to reduce as I did, but it can be done. I previously lived in Foxhall in Washington, DC and Beverly Hills in Los Angeles so I learned humility in this steel warehouse, with no power, no bath (I bathed in the sink), without air and heat, and very few friends.

If you blog, and other basic SEO skills, you can exchange for food, clothing, and just about anything if you set your mind to it. It should not be your lifestyle for the rest of your life. First of all, the economy will be better .... One day. After all, it can not be much worse. People will be buying and selling again. Right now, it makes more sense for many small business owners barter. If you blog and you can do article marketing, you have something of great value. If you know how to create keyword rich backlink, you are a blog that is much more valuable and Google-friendly. If you know which sites have high PR (Page Ranking), again, you're more ahead of the game. If you know how to do proper feedback on Twitter, they will be those who seek out.

Three decades ago, it was considered a little joke if you said someone was working from his home. Today it is the norm. "Workscape" is changing and it is estimated that 35 million or more to work from their living rooms rather than the corporate office. It's more than working in corporate offices. So, never be ashamed if someone asks to have the office lounge. It is actually more than the American dream than putting on a suit, driving through the crowd, and sitting on an uncomfortable office chair and table.

Be patient but be persistent. Cut back to barebones when it comes to costs. Of course, do not deprive yourself of every single perk. Everyone must go out to eat once in a while, seen or movie rentals, etc., but many things are free. Take a walk in the park or a trip into the woods. Remember this is only temporary. You are building the foundation for your business. During this time, there will be many who will show you how to "make more money now." Stop and think real hard on. Nine out of ten times they ask you to help them build their brand, so that they can stop their barebones life and go play a little. They will not tell you, they will "show you the wonderful opportunity." For them !!

stay on track no matter how big a challenge or obstacle. There May be tought days, weeks or even months, when you do not know how you eat. You do not have too much pride to go to the soup kitchen. Many churches and synagogues will give you money for emergency rent and / or utilities. All you need do is show an eviction notice. There is always a solution, but then again, remember these are temporary through the hardest times, but they are there for you. Some family members and friends who can help once in a while. Again, do not let pride get in your way. You are on a mission, so that you never, ever be in this situation again, and if you work hard enough, smart enough, and put in enough hours, it will happen. You do not have to be any kind of guru, business wizard, or SEO genius. Simply surviving. And most of us when it comes right down to it.

Who am I to tell you I know where I'm saying? In my eleventh year of my cartoon ventures, I had about 3,500 color images. I was ranked number one on Google and the fans have emailed me forautographed cartoons. The main charities asking for them and signed their ends, as well as churches, schools, etc. By 2008, I was ranked # 1 on MSN. It is now about 100,000 gifts and collectibles as my cartoon images. All that is true today. I am still number one on both Google and MSN, and my stores and continue to grow. I live in a nice apartment with a beautiful woman who looks the oldest national park in America. We walk him often. We both love nature and wildlife. All those days on the cold concrete floor in a sleeping bag with his dog Thor is well worth it.

Would you recommend this method for a young person asked me for advice? I'm not sure. It really depends on the person and his ambition, the ability to victims and their focus (to stay on track) and not get tracks each time someone tried to jump out (and there are many out there derailers). If that person is fixed with the aim, I would tell them to do whatever it takes (within the law). I always recommend training in the first place. It saves a lot of heartache and headaches, learning from others mistakes. But education alone will not build a business empire. Ask Bill Gates or Michael Dell.
